Project History:

The Children’s Park playscape was constructed in November of 1992 and has served

thousands of San Marcos and Central Texas children over the last 25 years. It was constructed through a community build process with both City funds and donations of money and materials. In 2013, due to the deteriorating condition and lack of ADA accessibility, the playscape was added to the 10-year Capital Improvements Plan with design to be funded in 2016 and construction to happen in 2017. In February of 2017, City Council authorized the selection of Leathers and Associates for the design of the Children’s playscape renovation.

The proposed design features an all-inclusive design for children of all abilities. There will be two distinct play areas for children ages 2 to 5, and ages 5 to 12. The playscape will feature numerous components with increased accessibility focus, including the poured in place safety surface.
