Chuy’s Presents Donation To School Fuel

SAN MARCOS, TX – As part of the grand opening celebration of its San Marcos location, Chuy’s donated $7,712 to its charity partner, School Fuel, with a check presentation Monday.

School Fuel is a non-profit organization that currently serves more than 535 local students who are at high-risk of having little or no food at home. Chuy’s Owner/Operator Jeff Leeper presented the check to representatives from School Fuel at the new Chuy’s, located at 1121 IH-35 N in San Marcos.

School Fuel meets the needs of local elementary school children by sending sacks of food home from school with students that have been identified as at risk. On average it costs $215 to feed a student in need for the entire school year. Each sack consists of 2 meals and 4 snacks for each day of the weekend.

“With a recent request from one of our schools, School Fuel was in desperate need of funding to help 37 additional students in our school district,” said Jenny Mangrum, President of School Fuel. “What a tremendous blessing when Chuy’s raised enough funds for 36 of these students and helped end weekend hunger for them!”

Leeper and his staff hosted several events during the restaurant’s grand opening celebration to introduce themselves to the community. Donations were raised from Chuy’s pre-opening events, including a Facebook fundraiser campaign and sales donations from training services.

“The moment we learned about the School Fuel mission and the work they do in this community we knew we had to help,” said Leeper. “It’s an honor to be a part of such a wonderful local charity that makes sure the children in this community are fed, and we are excited to continue to work with them now that we are open.”

Chuy’s San Marcos is open seven days a week for lunch and dinner: from 11am to 10pm, Sunday through Thursday and 11am to 11pm, Friday and Saturday.

On weekdays from 4pm to 7pm, the restaurant will offer happy hour drink specials and a Fully-Loaded Nacho Car (specially built out of the trunk of a classic car): a free unlimited build-your-own nacho station with chips, salsa, queso, ground sirloin and more.

ABOUT SCHOOL FUEL – School Fuel’s mission is to provide the “fuel” for a better learning environment by removing the pangs of hunger among the students in our classrooms. Over 75% of our school age children are on reduced or free meals at school. Most of them go home on the weekends to little or no food. Statistics show that children who struggle with hunger at home perform at lower levels in school during the week.(www.schoolfuelsanmarcos.org)
