City Accepting Applications, Offering Virtual Workshops For CDBG Funds

The City of San Marcos will accept applications from non-profit organizations and City departments for Community Development Block Grant (CDBG) project and program funding from March 27 through May 1, 2020.

The City is not accepting applications from individuals who need personal housing or other financial assistance through this application process.

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) is awarding the City $722,904 in CDBG funding for the program year beginning Oct. 1, 2020, and ending Sept. 30, 2021.

Seventy percent of the funds must be designated for projects and programs that benefit low-to-moderate income residents of San Marcos.

Eligible projects and programs must satisfy a national CDBG program objective and should address one or more of the designated priority needs: affordable housing, public services or public facilities.

Because of the impact of COVID-19, applications will also be accepted for economic development projects and programs. For programs related to COVID-19 response, the City may consider applications from for-profit entities.

Thursday, April 2 at 9:00 a.m.

The workshop will cover details of the application process, eligibility and compliance requirements, and will provide a general overview of the CDBG program.

Stakeholder Workshop (Virtual)

Thursday, April 2 at 6:00 p.m.

The workshop will provide an overview of the CDBG program and will explain the annual application process.

Participants will have an opportunity to ask questions and complete a short community needs survey regarding the use of CDBG funding in the next program year.

All comments received and survey results will be provided to the City Council and will be summarized in the City’s 2020 Action Plan.
