Austin Animal Center is offering free rabies vaccines and microchips for dogs and cats on Saturday, November 3 at Richard Moya Park, 10001 Burleson Rd., from 8am-11:30am. The event is open to all Travis County residents. Dogs must be on a leash and cats and puppies must be in carriers.

Texas State law requires all pets to be up to date on rabies vaccines in order to keep pets and people safe.

Microchips are another way to keep your pet safe. One in three pets will get lost in their lifetime and without proper ID, 90% of them won’t return home. Microchips are the size of a grain of rice and are implanted under the skin. When a lost pet is found, the microchip can be scanned to find the owner’s contact information and return the pet home safely.

Austin Animal Center is the largest municipal animal shelter in Central Texas in the largest “no-kill” community in the United States. They provide shelter to more than 18,000 animals annually. Their goal is to provide a safe place for lost and homeless animals and to educate our community in order to prevent animal homelessness and promote compassionate treatment of animals and responsible pet ownership.
