SAN MARCOS – On Monday, October 4 at 3 p.m. the San Marcos City Council will hold a work session to discuss the City Manager search process.

On September 8, San Marcos City Manager Bert Lumbreras announced his retirement and leave effective January 31, 2022. Lumbreras formally notified members of the San Marcos City Council during their regular meeting on Tuesday, September 7, 2021.

Lumbreras has served as the San Marcos City Manager since August 2017.

Other agenda items for the work session include receiving legal counsel regarding the pending wastewater discharge application and state law preemption of city ordinances regulating the sale or use of single-use packages and containers.

The meeting will be in-person and virtual. The meeting can be viewed on their website or watched on Grande channel 16 or Spectrum channel 10.

  1. One of the biggest challenges to business growth and prosperity in San Marcos is the legacy of languished projects and everstanding, beat up orange barrels and barricades that litter our city. For years it has been easier to go around town than through town. Projects seem to grow at a rate that is much faster than actual capacity to complete them as evidenced by the piles of barrels and barricades with no one actually working at them. Effective and timely progress requires skilled and effective project management and realization of the actual capcity to finish what has been started before undertaking something new. I hope that the City council and those running for election will recognize this as a crucial and key issue to progress and assure that the capcity to effectively manage what has been undertaken is a key priority in future City management.
