City Invites Human Services Agency Applications

Human service agency applications for funding from the City of San Marcos for 2015-2016 are now available and are due by Feb. 6, 2015.

Agencies may pick up application forms the City of San Marcos Finance Department in the Municipal Building, 630 E. Hopkins or download them from http://www.sanmarcostx.gov/finance.

Applications must be received by 12 p.m. on Feb. 6, 2015 at the Finance Department. No late submissions will be considered.

The Human Services Advisory Board will review applications and make its recommendations to the City Council in the spring. The City Council will decide allocations in its budget process that will be concluded in September 2015. Funding will be for the fiscal year from Oct. 1, 2015 to Sept. 30, 2016.

The City Council has allocated approximately $411,000 from the General Fund to assist programs of local social service agencies in recent budgets.

Agencies funded in 2014-15 include Hays County Area Food Bank, San Marcos Housing Authority, San Marcos Youth Service Bureau, Southside Community Center, Hays Caldwell Women’s Center, SMCISD Pep Program, Combined Community Action, Scheib Opportunity Center, Hays County Homespun, Greater San Marcos Youth Council, Society of St. Vincent de Paul, CASA of Central Texas, Community Action, Hays Caldwell Council on Alcohol & Drug Abuse, Nosotros La Gente, Pet Prevent A Litter (PALS), GENAustin, United Way and Central TX Dispute Resolution Center.

To participate in the application process, an agency must meet the following criteria:

  • Must be a Human Services agency as defined by the City Council of the City of San Marcos
  • Must be overseen by a volunteer board of directors
  • Must provide services in the San Marcos area
  • Must establish that it is performing a needed service to the community not provided by any other agency
  • Must execute an agency agreement with the City of San Marcos
  • Must have measurable goals and agree to undergo periodic program evaluations by the Human Services Advisory Board or City of San Marcos staff
  • Must have letters of support from members of the San Marcos community

City funding may not exceed 50 percent of the funding sources for applicants. For additional information, contact Christina Tureaud, Human Services Advisory Board Liaison, at 512.393.8170.
