City Mural Dedication In Barrio del Pescado Neighborhood

The City of San Marcos invites the public to the dedication of a new mural celebrating the heritage and history of the Barrio del Pescado neighborhood Saturday, Aug. 31 at 9 a.m. at the Conoco Fast Stop Stores #6, 1101 SH 123.

The mural, entitled “Bienvenidos,” was completed at the end of July and incorporates design elements suggested by neighborhood residents during two public input sessions earlier this summer.

Artists Jennifer Khoshbin, Celia Mendoza and Nanako Kishi will join members of the City Council, City of San Marcos Arts Commission and City of San Marcos Mural Arts Committee for the public dedication.

“We were truly honored to work with the City of San Marcos in collaboration with the residents of Barrio del Pescado on the ‘Bienvenidos’ mural,” Khoshbin said. “We strove to create artwork that is colorful and celebratory, with reflections of iconic symbols of the area and culture. This gateway mural celebrates this special neighborhood and we’re grateful for the community’s input and support throughout its installation.”
