City Of Austin, Partners Invite Community To Second Annual Colony Park Back-To-School Bash

AUSTIN, TX – The City of Austin Economic Development Department, Colony Park Neighborhood Association, and partners will host the second annual Colony Park Back to School Bash on Friday, August 2, from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Turner-Roberts Recreation Center, 7201 Colony Loop Drive, Austin, TX 78724.

Families can enjoy free food, live music, face painting, raffle prizes and other activities for youths.

The superhero themed event will feature exhibitors from a wide range of organizations, including CommUnityCare and Central Health’s new mobile health unit. During the event, students will receive free backpacks with school supplies.

LBJ High School staff will also be on hand to support families with early school year registration. Free haircuts will be offered by Bella Beauty School as well as free vaccines and sports physicals. Students must bring their vaccination records and be accompanied by a parent or guardian to receive services including backpacks.

This family-friendly event is being organized by the Colony Park Sustainable Community, a City and community effort focused on the implementation of the Colony Park Master Plan approved by Austin City Council in 2014. During the implementation phase of the project, the City is continuing its goal of improving services for residents living in Colony Park and the surrounding areas.

This year the Colony Park Back to School Bash has also been selected by the Austin Yellow Bike Project as the recipient of a free bike giveaway for students ages 2-10.

Bikes will be provided on a first-come first serve basis and to currently enrolled AISD students. Partners for the Colony Park Back to School Bash include the Austin Parks and Recreation Department, Austin Public Health, Colony Park Neighborhood Association, CapMetro, Catellus, Central Health, CommUnityCare, Mueller Foundation, RBI, Superior Health Plan, and Travis County.

The event is free and open to the public. Spanish translators will be available. Superhero costumes are welcome and encouraged! Additional event details
