City of Austin Small Business Program Celebrates National Small Business Week

The City of Austin’s Small Business Program, within the Economic Development Department, will celebrate National Small Business Week with five days filled with free business training events to help Austin’s small businesses, May 6-10.

Attendees will receive expert instruction covering industry insights, marketing, legal, and business planning. Designated annually by the U.S. Small Business Administration, National Small Business Week highlights critical contributions made by America’s entrepreneurs and small business owners.

The Austin City Council will recognize the entrepreneur-dedicated week with a City proclamation at 5:30 PM on April 25, 2019, at City Hall, 301 W. 2nd Street. The public is invited to participate in this recognition.

“Austin is fertile ground for opening up a new business,” says Sylnovia Holt-Rabb, Economic Development Department Interim Deputy Director. “A key focus of the City of Austin is to support our local businesses with access to resources needed to continue to grow our economy.”

The Small Business Program is proud to partner with the Austin Public Library to host two sessions at area library branches, including the Central and Manchaca Road libraries. Small business assistance providers, including area non-profits and government entities, will also host special events during this entrepreneur-focused week.

“The benefits of business programs and educational trainings make Austin unique and lend to the vibrant local entrepreneurial culture we experience daily,” says Vicky Valdez, Small Business Program Division Manager.

Tickets to attend the training and events are free, but attendees should arrive early to ensure a position as tickets do not guarantee admission.  Registration and more details can be found at www.SmallBizAustin.org.
