City of Buda Hires New Finance Director

Buda, TX –  June Ellis has been selected as the new finance director for the City of Buda.  Ellis began his career in municipal finance 20 years ago.

Prior to joining the City of  Buda, Ellis worked for the City of Missouri City, Texas where he served as the Budget and Financial Reporting Manager. He recently led the development of the largest operating budget in Missouri City’s history, which totals over $105 million.

Ellis has also worked as a Budget Manager for the City of Detroit, Michigan and as a Budget Officer for the City of Pearland, Texas.

While in Pearland, Ellis says he experienced the same type of growth Buda is currently experiencing.

“One of the things I did to sustain and manage the city’s finances during this time of growth was create the city’s first five-year financial plan, or forecast, for the city so that management and the City Council could have a picture of what the finances of the city would look like in future years,” said Ellis.  “This helped management plan for future projects and other expenditures that would be needed due to the rapid growth.  I also created the city’s first five-year Capital Improvement Program (CIP), which helped city management focus on critical current and future infrastructure needs, such as new roads and drainage improvements.”

Ellis earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science from Texas Southern University and a Master of Arts degree in Political Science from Wayne State University.   He is a Certified Government Finance Officer (CGFO) and has recently passed the Governmental Accounting, Audit, and Financial Reporting exam toward achieving his certification as a Certified Public Finance Officer (CPFO).  He is also a member of the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA).

“I look forward to working with all of the staff here at the City of Buda and I further look forward to continuing to ensure fiscal responsibility for long-term financial sustainability of the city,” said Ellis.

Ellis grew up in the small east Texas town of Lovelady, Texas and graduated from high school in Houston. He is the father of one child.
