City Of Buda To Recognize Preservation Efforts At Awards Ceremony

Each award recognizes outstanding contributions to the preservation of Buda’s historic fabric and are based on specific criteria as defined in the Historic Preservation Award nomination form.


The City of Buda Historic Preservation Commission in partnership with the Buda Main Street Program will host an event recognizing the preservation efforts made by individuals and businesses in the Buda Historic District.

The event will take place on Wednesday, May 30 from 6:30 – 8 pm in the historic Kunkel Room at Buda Elementary School, 300 N. San Marcos St. Award categories to be recognized include:

  • The Howe House, 200 Prairie St. – Exterior Restoration for Residential: acknowledges historic restoration projects for the exterior of the structure where exceptional care, sensitivity and respect for the historic fabric and or setting of the property were displayed.
  • Buda School, 300 N. San Marcos St. – Exterior Restoration for Mixed-Use/Commercial: acknowledges historic mixed-use or commercial restoration projects for the exterior of the structure where exceptional care, sensitivity and respect for the historic fabric and or setting of the property were displayed.
  • Main Street Dental, 108 S. Main St. – Adaptive Re-use: recognizes a successful adaptive re-use of a property where the excellence in design inspires new and different uses for an existing building.
  • 202 S. Cedar St. – Architecturally Compatible New Structure: recognizes new construction that compliments the character of the district and surrounding structures.

Each award recognizes outstanding contributions to the preservation of Buda’s historic fabric and are based on specific criteria as defined in the Historic Preservation Award nomination form.

Once the nomination forms are received, the Historic Preservation Commission selects the award recipients.

With the new Main Street Program now established, the two groups are collaborating to celebrate National Preservation Month with an official event to honor the outstanding preservation efforts and intend to grow preservation efforts in the future.

Prior to the awards ceremony, light refreshments will be served from 6:30 p.m. – 7 p.m. with the official program beginning at 7 pm.

A representative from the Hays County Historical Commission will be the keynote speaker for the event. The public is invited to attend this celebration.
