Caller Using City of Buda Office Number Claiming Social Security Fraud
BUDA, TX – September 3, 2019 – The City of Buda has been made aware of a possible scam involving a caller who is telling residents that there is “fraudulent activity” happening with their social security numbers.
It appears that the caller is spoofing a City of Buda office number. Spoofing is when a caller deliberately falsifies the information transmitted to your caller ID display to disguise their identity.
The number showing is 512-523-1013, which is a City of Buda office number. If someone calls you from this number claiming that your social security number has been compromised, this is a scam.
You can report this to the Buda Police Department at 512-393-7896. Remember, do not give your personal information in response to an unexpected request. Please visit the Federal Trade Commission’s Consumer Information page for tips on how to avoid scammers. Federal Trade Commission – How to Avoid Fraud.
