City of Kyle completes 2022 Great Texas River Cleanup

KYLE – The City of Kyle participated in the 2022 Great Texas River Cleanup on Saturday, March 5.

Approximately 83 volunteers, including Mayor Pro Tem Robert Rizo, Council Members Yvonne Flores-Cale and Dex Ellison, helped collect trash and recycling that could have otherwise polluted local waterways.

In total, approximately 2,840 pounds of trash and 170 pounds of recycling were collected by volunteers.

“We are so grateful for the opportunity to join in an event that helps to bring awareness and volunteers to help beautify the river, creeks, and riverbanks,” Stormwater Management Plan Administrator Kathy Roecker said. “We want to thank the volunteers for coming out and helping us clean trash and debris from Plum Creek and drainage ways that would have otherwise ended up along our Texas coastline.”

The 37th Annual Great Texas River Clean Up was made possible by generous donors including Alsco, Carson Properties, Clean Earth Systems, Edwards Aquifer Authority, Guadalupe Blanco River Authority, Greater San Marcos Partnership, H.E.B./Central Market, Honda San Marcos/David Cook, Jacob’s/CH2M, Keep Texas Beautiful, Print My Biz, RDO Equipment, San Marcos Chamber of Commerce, San Marcos Lions Club and Sur Power Battery. The event was sponsored by the Texas River Protection Association, City of San Marcos, Keep San Marcos Beautiful, Habitat Conservation Plan and Texas State University.
