KYLE, TEXAS – Starting on National Trails Day on June 5 and going through National Park and Recreation Month in July, the City of Kyle will be celebrating the unique parks, trail systems and programs the Kyle Parks and Recreation Department brings to the community as well as spotlighting the future trails and parks to come.
As part of the celebration of National Trails Day, the City of Kyle will be hosting a Trails Open House on Tuesday, June 1 from 4-6 p.m. at Kyle City Hall, 100 W. Center St. This in-person event will offer residents the opportunity to learn more about the City’s trail system and give valuable feedback on future trail development. Residents will also have a chance to give their input on future trail development starting June 1 and going through June 15 via the Trials Survey the City will be conducting.
The City of Kyle Parks and Recreation Department will also be rolling out new webpages in June to showcase the City parks and trails system with an interactive map as well as information on parks and trails coming.
Currently, the City of Kyle has over 320 acres dedicated to City parks with over 10 miles of developed trails ranging in difficulty from easy to moderate. The Kyle Parks and Recreation Department has worked to create a diverse range of activities and features within its parks from catch and release fishing at Lake Kyle to the dog park at Steeplechase Park to a roller hockey pavilion, outdoor pool and sport complex at Gregg-Clarke Park.
The City’s largest trail, Plum Creek Trail is over 7 miles of walkable, bikeable trail that runs alongside the flowing waters of Plum Creek. The Plum Creek Trail will one day become a part of the Kyle Loop of the Emerald Crown Trail that will connect Kyle from east to west with approximately 15 miles of trails spanning all the way from the City of Uhland to the Blanco River. But the Kyle Loop is only one part of a much bigger goal to one day connect Central Texas from San Antonio to Austin with a network of trails, thanks to the work of surrounding communities with the support of the Great Springs Project.
The Kyle Parks and Recreation Department has lined up a series of events for the entire community to enjoy throughout the summer.
Parks and Recreation Department Events:
The City of Kyle is encouraging visitors and event attendees who are not fully vaccinated against COVID-19 to continue wearing a face covering over the nose and mouth when inside City buildings and facilities open to the public, or when at City-owned outdoor public spaces and it is not feasible to maintain six feet of distance from someone outside of their household.
