City of San Marcos Encourages River Safety

Independence Day on the San Marcos River should be a fun and safe experience for every resident and visitors. However, due to a high river flow the City is asking residents and visitors to be diligent and practice river safety this holiday weekend.

 

Follow the suggestions below to ensure a day of floating or swimming in the river is safe and enjoyable.

 

  • Wear a flotation device if you are not a strong swimmer
  • Ensure that children wear flotation devices and are accompanies by an adult at all times.
  • While alcohol is permitted in the river, avoid river actives when under the influence of alcohol.
  • Don’t swim alone
  • Check river conditions before braving the waters

 

Call 911 if you see a life-threatening or emergency situation.
