City Of San Marcos Prepares For More Outages; Government Center Gets Delayed Start

With wet, windy weather expected for several more days, San Marcos officials expect more power outages as fallen trees undo the city’s repair work efforts.

The City of San Marcos Electric Utility (SMEU) continues to make repairs after addressing over four hundred outages today and fielding more than one thousand calls.  City officials say many of the customers have had outages repaired and are faced with repeating outages due to downed trees.

San Marcos Electric Utility is addressing the outages with crews to make repairs and tree-trimming crews to prevent outages.  The City expects to double the number of tree trimming crews Monday.  The wet conditions and wind will lead to more downed trees and additional outages over the next several days.

The City has established an email address to report outages. San Marcos utility customers can email powerout@sanmarcostx.gov or call 512.393.8313.  SMEU will also have staff on hand over the next several days to contact customers who have reported outages.

The City of San Marcos and Hays County severe weather hotline remains open.  Residents with non-emergency, disaster-related questions should call 512-754-2291. This number only provides information within Hays County and the City of San Marcos.

The City also reminds residents not to approach downed power lines. Residents should stay at least 35 feet away from a downed line, as it can cause shocks even without touching it. Call 9-1-1 to report downed lines.

Hays County offices will have a delayed opening at 10 a.m. on Monday due to potential severe weather.  The San Marcos Municipal Court, which is housed in the Hays County Government Center will also open at 10 a.m.  All other City of San Marcos offices will resume regular schedules. City parks remain closed until further notice.
