The San Marcos City Clerk’s office will sponsor a free Shred Day for San Marcos and Hays County residents from 9 a.m. to 12 noon — or until the truck is full– on Saturday, April 25 at City Hall, 630 E. Hopkins.
The limit is three boxes per vehicle. No business shredding will be accepted.
City Clerk Jamie Lee Pettijohn, her staff and volunteers will be on hand to assist residents who want to dispose of boxes of paper documents by confidential on-site shredding by Marshall Shredding of San Antonio.
Residents are invited to safely dispose of personal documents and records such as old tax returns, processed checks, loan applications, financial reports and other papers that include Social Security or banking and credit card account numbers.
“With the increased concerns about identity theft, many people are aware that they should dispose of personal records in a way that insures that others cannot gain possession or misuse the information,” Pettijohn said. “This event helps with home records management and publicizes the importance of managing records.”
All the documents will be shredded on site. Volunteers will be available to help unload material from vehicles. Bags and boxes will be returned to residents.
