The Mayor and City Council will celebrate the completion of the San Marcos Outlet Mall Traffic Signal and Crosswalk Improvements on Tuesday, April 26 at 8:30 a.m. The ceremony will be held at Centerpoint Road between the Tanger and Premium Outlet mall driveways.
“The City of San Marcos appreciates Tanger Outlet Mall’s contribution for this much needed project,” said Sabas Avila, Assistant Director of Public Services. “This project will provide the 13 million shoppers that visit the outlet malls each year a safe pedestrian crossing between the two major attractions.”
The $298,000 project was a private-public partnership between Tanger Outlet and the City of San Marcos. The project, which had been delayed for several years due to lack of funding, was kick-started with a $73,333 contribution from Tanger Outlet.
The project began Nov. 3, 2015, when Austin Traffic Signal Construction and Casto Lopez Concrete LLC broke ground.
The state-of-the-art traffic signal and crosswalk improvements include audible pedestrian push buttons, countdown pedestrian signals, ADA compliant pedestrian ramps, GPS emergency pre-emption, high-speed radio communication, video detection with bike presence capabilities, stamped concrete crosswalk, and LED crosswalk lighting.
