City to Hold Code SMTX Environmental Workshop
The City of San Marcos invites residents to collaborate with City staff to determine the environmental standards that will be included in the re-write of the City’s Land Development Code as a part of the Code SMTX project. Public workshops will be held on Tuesday, March 3 from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Thursday, March 5 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the City Park Recreation Hall at 170 Charles Austin Dr.
This is the third round of Code SMTX public meetings following the kickoff in July and Code Rodeo in October. “The City invites those who participated in the previous meetings to provide more input, and we look forward to new perspectives from first-time attendees who are using these meetings as an opportunity to get involved in this vital community project,” said Abigail Gillfillan, Code SMTX Project Manager.
The Code SMTX Environmental Workshops are a joint effort of the City of San Marcos, San Marcos Watershed Initiative and the Edwards Aquifer Habitat Conservation Plan.

I am very concerned with the increased traffic down Cheatham street, I live on 1110 Cheatham and have never seen Semi trailers going through the street. It is all do to the confusion that is the Continuous Flow adjustments that have been made to the intersection of IH 35 and Hwy 80. I’m pretty sure the intentions of the traffic engineer were good, but I’m sure they could not see the increased flow of speeding traffic through the street. I know the city installed speed monitoring signs at both the north and south ends of Cheatham, but if the reason for the signs to catch drivers going faster than 30 mph it is pretty ineffective, almost impossible to hit any thing above 30 mph in that distance. The signs need to be a little centrally located to get accurate reads on traffic flow. Let’s try not to be innovative on traffic flow, especially if it effects a good neighborhood of tax payers.
