SAN MARCOS, TEXAS—Leyla Davila, CNA was honored at Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) as the hospital’s latest Sunflower Award recipient.
The award recognizes ancillary nursing staff, which includes Nursing Assistants and Nursing Technicians, who show uncommon compassion, integrity, leadership and education to patients and their families.
“Leyla is precisely what we look for in a Sunflower Award winner,” said Catherine Amitrano, CTMC Chief Nursing Officer. “Her willingness to go above and beyond for our patients and team members exemplifies the resiliency, strength and compassion the sunflower has come to represent.”
After coming in on her day off, Davila happily assisted a coworker bathe a special needs patient knowing it would likely cause her to stay later than her scheduled shift.
“She is always willing to go the extra mile,” said the nominating coworker. “Not only does she go the extra mile, but she does so cheerfully with a smile on her face and a kind word.”
CTMC will continue to honor its members of its ancillary nursing staff with the Sunflower Award quarterly. Caregivers may be nominated by patients, families and colleagues.
The award recipient is chosen by a committee at CTMC and awards are presented throughout the year at celebrations attended by the Honoree’s colleagues, patients and visitors.
