HOUSTON — The Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston command center is receiving an extremely high level of calls for help.

Please do not notify first responders of your location and distress by social media – Please call 911, or to reach the Coast Guard, please call any of the following numbers only if you feel your life is in jeopardy:

Please abide by the following safety measures:

  • Stay calm, do not panic.
  • Do not go into your attic – rescuers from the air cannot see you.
  • Safely seek high ground
  • Safely mark your roof to be seen by the air. To get rescuers attention, wave sheets, towels etc.

A Joint Information Center has been established at Coast Guard Sector Houston-Galveston to disseminate response information for Hurricane Harvey.
