Colorado River Alliance Wins Texas Environmental Excellence Award

Exhibits about Texas’ uses of river water, water pollution and conservation, and careers in water science help students and visitors connect with the Colorado River in new and meaningful ways. 

The Colorado River Alliance has received the Texas Environmental Excellence Award (TEEA) by the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) for its one-of-a-kind mobile science center, the Texas Colorado River Rolling Exhibit, known as Mobile River.

In partnership with Austin Water and the Austin Independent School District, the program has served over 10,000 students and community members across the state since its launch in April 2015.

Mobile River is a 42-foot trailer, equipped with an interactive science museum inside, bringing a free field-trip experience directly to middle schools.

With interactive exhibits such as the Texas 2040 video game, the Mobile River’s multimedia approach inspired students to save an estimated 17 million gallons of water.

Being named a TEEA winner will help the Colorado River Alliance continues to enhance the Mobile River programming with additional bilingual support and both public and school-based appearances across the Colorado River basin.
