Comeback Kid Skatepark Project Ribbon Cutting & Grand Opening

The City of San Marcos and multi-platinum singer/songwriter Kip Moore invite residents to attend the ribbon-cutting of the “Comeback Kid Skatepark Project” at Veterans Park at 3209 Mariposa on Aug. 28 at 2:30 p.m.

The new pump track skatepark is part of a charitable initiative launched by Moore to benefit communities and “comeback kids.”

The project is named after one of the songs on Moore’s new album Wild Ones.  “I wrote the song ‘Comeback Kid’ at a time when I felt like a comeback kid, but now when I sing it I think less about myself and more about the kids we are doing this for and how much I admire and respect them,” said Moore.

The City of San Marcos is among several cities including Nashville, Boston and Annapolis, MD that are benefitting from The Comeback Kid Skatepark Project, which is part of Kip’s Kids Fund, Moore’s charity.

“Our community is very thankful that Kip chose us as a location for his Comeback Kid Skatepark Project.  This new feature at Veterans Park will not only give kids and teens a safe, family-friendly place to play, but it will also encourage them to become more active and utilize a park they may have not visited before,” said Mayor Daniel Guerrero.

Mayor Guerrero says this project would not be possible without the assistance of Brad Turcotte, Vice President of Marketing for Universal Music Group, who works with Moore.  Turcotte is a native of San Marcos and a former classmate of Mayor Guerrero.  “The City can’t thank Brad enough for his work to shine the spotlight on his hometown and help provide a new skatepark for the kids in this community,” said Guerrero.

Moore will join Mayor Daniel Guerrero at the ribbon-cutting event and officially open the park to the public.
