Commissioners Court Honors Landis Shoe Clinic For 100 Years Of Business Through Three Generations

“We appreciate the service you’ve provided for so many years and wanted to thank you and honor you,” Precinct 1 Commissioner Debbie Gonzales Ingalsbe said.

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – At its October 3 meeting, the Hays County Commissioners Court congratulated Landis Shoe Clinic for its 100 years of serving customers in San Marcos and Hays County through three generations of the Mendez Family.

The shop was named E. Mendez Shoe Shop when the current owner’s grandfather, Emilio Mendez, founded it in 1917 on West San Antonio Street.

Ronnie Mendez, the current owner of the business, said his father, Phillip, named it Landis Shoe Clinic when he returned from World War II in 1945 and purchased the business from his father, buying all new shoe repair equipment from the Landis Company.

The Landis Shoe Clinic, now at 120 S. LBJ Drive, repairs shoes, boots and other leather goods and makes orthopedic lifts for shoes. Its longtime customers include residents from throughout Central Texas and Hollywood, many of whom mail their shoes and boots to the shop for repair.

“We appreciate the service you’ve provided for so many years and wanted to thank you and honor you,” Precinct 1 Commissioner Debbie Gonzales Ingalsbe said. Precinct 3 Commissioner Will Conley noted that Landis Shoe Clinic has been a wonderful role model for other small businesses and business owners in the community.

Special recognition was given to Micky Marroquin, Ronnie Mendez’s aunt, who although currently living in Waco has been involved in the business for 87 years.

Ronnie Mendez thanked the Court for the recognition, and thanked shop manager Rene Medina, “who has been with me since daddy passed away 34 years ago – I don’t think there would be a Landis Shoe Clinic without him.”
