The City of San Marcos invites residents to celebrate art during a mural dedication ceremony on Thursday, June 9 at 9:30 a.m. at the Root Cellar Bakery.
The San Marcos Mural Arts Committee and San Marcos Arts Commission will dedicate the new mural, “Dive into the Divine,” which is co-sponsored by the Root Cellar Bakery.
“The Root Cellar is extremely proud to be among the first recipients of the city’s new mural grant program. We would like to honor our designer Morgan Haberle Egan and our muralist Jana Swec for brightening the entire town with their talents,” said Kyle Mylius, owner of the Root Cellar Café and Bakery.
San Marcos Mural Arts Grant Program provides up to 50 percent of the cost of materials and supplies for murals on private property in the City of San Marcos. It also provides funds for the full cost of a final clear coat of the mural and an artist honorarium. The program grant is funded though the City’s hotel occupancy tax collections.
“Murals can add character and sense of place to parking lots and alleys as well as discouraging and covering graffiti,” said Lisa Morris, City of San Marcos Recreation Programs Manager.
Several other murals have been recently completed throughout the City and will be dedicated later this summer.
