Community Paint Day Set For Crockett Elementary Mural

The goals of the project are to beautify the school with a child-inspired theme and to deter future graffiti.

The San Marcos Mural Arts Program will be hosting a “Community Paint Day” at Crockett Elementary School located at 1300 Girard Street from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. on Tuesday, July 18, 2017.

Adults and children are invited to participate.  A parent or guardian must accompany children.

Artists Amy Hall and Jessica Botello, assisted by community members, will paint a mural on the outdoor learning area at Crockett Elementary School. The multi-media art design will highlight the unique flora and fauna of Central Texas.

“The mural will bring beauty and colorful art to children at Crockett Elementary and create a teaching tool for students and teachers to enjoy for years to come,” said Lisa Morris, Recreation Programs Manager.

The mural is the eighth in a series of murals to be created throughout San Marcos.  The murals will be located in high visibility areas that have been tagged with graffiti and to promote art in the community.  In addition to the large murals, there are mini-murals popping up in locations around the downtown area.

The goals of the project are to beautify the school with a child-inspired theme and to deter future graffiti.

Volunteers interested in helping with the mural project may contact Lisa Morris, Recreation Programs Manager at lmorris@sanmarcostx.gov or at Parks & Recreation, 512.393.8400.
