Community Supporters Recognized By SMCISD

At the November 14, 2016, San Marcos CISD School Board meeting, Superintendent Michael Cardona and the trustees recognized several businesses and organizations that have been outstanding champions for children.

  • First to be recognized was Ralph Gonzales and Nosotros la Gente who have provided over 20,000 pairs of shoes— so far—for the children of San Marcos CISD. Working closely with the district’s Parent Liaisons to identify those most in need, Nosotros la Gente gives shoes each year to students in grades K-12. The next distribution will be Saturday, December 10.
  • Central Texas Medical Center employees, represented by Anthony Stahl, took up a collection of school supplies for the SMCISD school children this year.
  • John McComb of the San Marcos Community Church accepted thanks for their donation of both school supplies and children’s clothing this fall.
  • School Fuel was recognized for their efforts to provide 557 food insecure children with bags of healthy meals on weekends and holidays. Accepting the award were Larkin and Nancy Smith and Jenny Mangrum. (Larkin Smith now shown in photo.)
  • The San Marcos Noon Lions Club donated $20,000 so that all the students of San Marcos High School could take the Advanced Placement testing this year. Accepting the award on behalf of the Lions were Mitch Hoffman, Larkin Smith, John Schramm, and Debbie Smith.
  • Kevin Easter, of the Nike Factory Store (Premium Outlets), was recognized for the efforts of Nike employees who donate shoes, volunteer in our district schools, and help raise money for needed projects.

Each group recognized was given a “Thank You” wooden plaque made by San Marcos High School students. Career and Tech Coordinator Mike Doyle presented the awards.
