Conley To Resign From CAMPO

Will Conley, the current chair of Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO),announced he plans to resign. According to CAMPO, Conley will stay on as chair until the group can find his replacement.

Conley was appointed to the CAMPO board by the Hays County Commissioners Court in 2008 and has served as the group’s chair for the past six years. 

He was the first person outside of Travis County to be elected to lead the 43-year old regional transportation board.

Conley, formerly a Hays County commissioner, was first elected commissioner in 2004 for Precinct 3, which includes San Marcos and Wimberley. Conley resigned in 2017 to run for Hays County Judge in 2018.

During his time in office, Conley has led the Hays County partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation; the partnership has brought over $500 million in upgrades to state highways within Hays County.

He has lead public safety initiatives to improve emergency communications, upgrade officer training and safety and prepare standard response protocols for every school in Hays County.

After Conley resigned as Hays County Commissioner, CAMPO voted 15-1 to keep Conley as Chair allowing him to continue to serve as a non-voting member.

During his time as CAMPO chair, Conley won multiple awards, including the 2017 Jack Griesenbeck Leadership in Regionalism Award and the coveted Aquifer Advocate Award.

As a Hays County Commissioner, Conley positioned the county with its highest bond rating and level of savings in history and led the charge for new tax relief for seniors and disabled citizens. He also negotiated to bring major employers to the county. His pro-jobs policies spurred a wave of new business investment, leading CNN Money to feature Hays County for the nation’s third highest rate of job growth.

He is one of the founders of the Greater San Marcos Partnership (GSMP) and has remained on the board since his time as president.

GSMP is a public-private partnership that serves as the regional economic development organization for the City of San Marcos, and Hays and Caldwell Counties, located at the heart of the Texas Innovation Corridor.

Conley also spear headed the Save Our Wells campaign in 2015 and started working with the district’s state Rep. Jason Isaac, R-Dripping Springs, and and state Sen. Donna Campbell, R-New Braunfels, to create legislation to stop Electro Purification from pumping millions of gallons of Hays County ground water per day.
