Excavation for a new parking lot at City Park, which will offer expanded parking space and enhanced environmental protections for the San Marcos River, is well underway.
The new parking lot will have an additional 70 parking spots, for a total of 289, as well as controlled traffic flow and new drop-off locations for the San Marcos Rec Hall and river access points.
Environmental enhancements include the construction of a biofiltration pond that will capture and clean stormwater runoff from the parking lot runoff before it reaches the San Marcos River, as well as additional native plants along the river. Habitat Conservation Plan funds were used for the design and oversight of the biofiltration construction.
The project is scheduled to be complete in February 2017, weather permitting.
