The San Marcos City Council on Tuesday approved an economic development incentive agreement with United WELD Operations, LLC, to locate its business in San Marcos and bring at least 350 jobs to the city over the next ten years.
Under the incentive agreement, the City will refund 80 percent of ad valorem taxes generated from the additional real and personal property added by the company over ten years.
United WELD Operations, LLC, expects to begin its operations in March or April of 2015. The company will manufacture a wide variety of energy services products within the upstream, midstream, downstream and power sectors. This diverse approach supports continued job growth in a variety of business climates. The 350 jobs expected to be created are projected to offer employees a median wage of $20.50 per hour, or more than $40,000 per year.
The company’s facility will be located at 2301 N IH-35 in the former Butler Manufacturing building, which has been vacant since December 2013. The company has already committed significant investment capital to its coming operations.
“The City Council is very excited that the City of San Marcos was able to attract a company that will bring such a large number of new employees to the San Marcos area,” said Mayor Daniel Guerrero. “The investment this company will make in this community over the next several years is substantial, and we look forward to working with them for years to come.”
Staff from the City of San Marcos and the Greater San Marcos Partnership worked with the company’s representatives to broker the agreement and connect with workforce recruitment and training partners.
