On Tuesday, the San Marcos City Council will consider a memorandum of understanding with Keep Texas Beautiful providing for an award of $100,000.00.
The funds were awarded to the Keep San Marcos Beautiful Initiative as a sub-recipient in Trash Free Waters Grant Funds from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
According to the agenda, KTB was awarded a $428,000 grant from the USEPA Gulf of Mexico Program from Sept. 21, 2020, to August 31, 2021.
KTB will be working with three KTB affiliates to look at how to keep litter out of Texas waterways that lead to the Gulf of Mexico including Keep San Marcos Beautiful.
The agenda states KSMB will be representing inland waterways for the project. The other affiliates involved are Keep Houston Beautiful and Keep South Padre Island Beautiful.
KTB and KSMB will work together conducting community site visits, identifying and holding stakeholder meetings, creating and implementing a work plan, and summarize the findings to create best practices. Education outreach will target four groups: community/residents, Texas State University students, those experiencing homelessness, and travelers.
The item is slated for the Council’s consent agenda with potentially no discussion.
In other news, the Council will discuss and consider annual appointments to various boards and commissions including the Ethics Review Commission, Economic Development San Marcos Board, and Comprehensive Plan Oversight Committee.
The San Marcos City Council will convene virtually for their regular meeting at 6:00 PM.
