CTMC Foundation Announces Headliner For 2019 Stars Of Texas Gala

SAN MARCOS, TEXAS — The Central Texas Medical Center Foundation announced Henry Brun and the Latin Playerz will headline this year’s Stars Of Texas Gala.

Hays County’s premiere black-tie event will kick-off at 5:00 PM Sunday, October 13 at the Embassy Suites Hotel, Spa and Conference Center in San Marcos

Legendary conga player Henry Brun nicknamed “Mr. Ritmo” by his fans, lives by the authenticity and dynamics of the music he plays. Born in the Bronx to Puerto Rican parents, Brun started playing congas at age seven.

Within four years, shortly after his father moved the family to Puerto Rico, he began playing professionally at age 11. While listening to, and being influenced by, Latin music stars like Tito Puente, Patato and Candido, he developed his own unique style and technique on the bongos and timbales.

In 1989, Brun created The Latin Playerz, an ensemble that incorporates a variety of Latin styles with Rhythm and Blues, Swing and straight-ahead Jazz. Henry Brun and the Latin Playerz have been recognized on the local and national level, including several Grammy recognitions as musician and producer in the Tejano category and a proclamation by the Mayor of Ponce, Puerto Rico for 20 years of performing and touring.

This year’s Gala will honor the philanthropic work of Pink Heals Hays County, a chapter of the National Pink Heals Tour. The group works hard to assist families in their battle against cancer. Their mission is to provide communities with a program that supports people in need on a personal level in partnership with public safety and local businesses.

Each year, the Stars of Texas Gala supports service and technology expansions keeping CTMC on the leading edge of healthcare. This year’s proceeds will benefit the CTMC Women’s Center Level II Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), which is a nine-bed unit with two isolation rooms for readmission infants up to 28 days old.
