CTMC To Open Senior Care Unit With Ribbon Cutting On Feb. 26
SAN MARCOS, TEXAS – Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC), in conjunction with the San Marcos Chamber of Commerce, will hold a ribbon cutting ceremony for its new Senior Care Unit on February 26 at 10:30 a.m.
The new unit is the first of its kind in Hays County. It was designed by geriatric experts to assist older adults who are experiencing mental, emotional or behavioral challenges along with chronic medical conditions. Licensed psychiatrists, geriatricians and medical doctors are available 24/7 for patients in the program. As a hospital-based unit, the unit will be able to accept patients who have a psychiatric diagnosis along with a chronic medical condition.
“Incorporating the new Senior Care Unit demonstrates CTMC’s dedication to expanding the continuum of care for senior citizens,” said CTMC CEO/President Sam Huenergardt. “We are pleased to be able to care for seniors in our community who need such services.”
An average stay for a patient on the Senior Care Unit is 14 days that provide a focus on restoring optimal function through diagnosis and treatment of psychiatric and medical conditions.
“We are guided by compassion, integrity and quality, and we understand that seeking help is not an easy decision,” said LeAn Corbett, CTMC Senior Care Unit director. “Our trained professionals are dedicated to maintaining every patient’s self-respect and dignity throughout all phases of treatment.”
Patient and family education are included in the services, and families have access to the CTMC cafeteria, coffee shop, chapel and gardens while visiting loved ones.
