CTMC Women’s Council Grants Impact 7 Local Non-Profits
The Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) Women’s Council once again awarded impact grants to local non-profits that make a difference in the lives of women and children in Hays County. This year, seven organizations received a portion of the available $15,000 in grant funding at the Council’s fifth annual Grants Award Ceremony.
Established in 2010, the Women’s Council is a unique fundraising committee of the CTMC Foundation that utilizes member dues to fund its efforts rather than traditional events and activities. Each year, the Council gives a large portion of its impact grants to the CTMC Women’s Center and awards the rest to other non-profits serving women and children in Hays County. To date, the Council has provided $81,000 in funding.
At the Grants Award Ceremony, members of funds were awarded to the following organizations:
- Hands of Hope – $1,500 ~ Hands of Hope is a faith-based, tuition-free, 10-week-long educational program for women that provides an array of life skills and job training. The organization will use their grant funds to support their “Computer Project,” which will provide up-to-date systems and software for their program.
- School Fuel – $2,000 ~ School Fuel is a program that provides weekend nutrition to underprivileged San Marcos school children. The grant funding will be used to help feed 511 children by sending a sack of food home with them on Friday afternoons.
- GENaustin – $1,000 ~ GENaustin (Girls Empowerment Network) supports and guides girls to make wise choices as they navigate the unique pressures of girlhood. The organization will use its grant money for their 180 Program, which is a prevention and intervention program for at-risk middle school and high school girls.
- Hays Caldwell Women’s Center – $1,000 ~ The Hays Caldwell Women’s Shelter will use their grand funding to purchase three new folding cribs that will meet the federal standards required for child care centers. The new, light-weight cribs will be on wheels for easy transport.
- The Society of St. Vincent de Paul – $1,500 ~ The Society of St. Vincent de Paul offers tangible assistance to those in need on a person-to-person basis. They will use their grant to provide direct aid and assistance to the poor and needy in the San Marcos area, including the Hays Caldwell Women’s Center and single mothers and children.
- Hays Caldwell Council on Alcohol and Drug Abuse – $1,000 ~ This organization will use its grant to fund technology updates in their video library. All educational DVDs purchased will be used in all Hays County schools.
- The CTMC Women’s Center – $7,000 ~ The CTMC Women’s Center will use its portion of grant funding to purchase a new bladder scanner, which will reduce catheterization and re-catheterization rates and result in a decreased incidence of catheter related infections following cesarean sections and gynecologic surgeries.

2015 marks another year of generous giving from the CTMC Women’s Council. In 2014, the Council raised $15,000 for non-profits that benefit women and children in Hays County.
Besides providing half of the funding to the CTMC Women’s Center, which will be used to purchase a bladder scanner for patients, the following organizations were awarded a portion of the remaining $7,500.
