Central Texas Medical Center (CTMC) has named Lee Johannsen, MD the chief medical officer for the 178-bed hospital.
In this role, Dr. Johannsen will serve both the medical staff and hospital to improve the quality of care offered. He will work closely with hospital physicians to ensure that the highest standards of practice are maintained and will also provide oversight for clinical performance and quality outcomes. As CMO, he will serve as a liaison between the medical staff and hospital leadership team to achieve the best care for patients.

He is a great communicator who can help us further develop the culture we are building here at CTMC.”
Dr. Johannsen has served as an emergency medicine physician at CTMC since 2009 and has worked in many leadership roles on the medical staff, including chief of staff in 2012 and medical director of the Emergency Department for six years.

Dr. Johannsen was raised in a farming family in Iowa before earning his undergraduate degree from Drake University. He completed medical school at the University of Iowa and performed his residency in emergency medicine at the University of Florida. His previous emergency medicine experience includes work in the U.S. Army, El Paso and Austin. He and his wife Gianna have 2 sons. They enjoy ranching, camping, hunting and following University of Iowa athletics.
