April Downtown Walkabout Includes New Artists’ Reception And Autism Awareness Month Celebration
Their newest nine quilts covered in bluebirds and flowers can be found hanging in the Center’s Stairway Gallery.
San Marcos, TX – This month’s 3rd Thursday Downtown Walkabout activities at the Price Center from 6-9 p.m. will spotlight more than 100 locally produced, original creations, including the Raku Sculpture and Found Object Assemblage pieces of Clay DeStefano, a new Spring quilt display involving a fabric challenge, a new artists’ Opening Reception and a focus on Autism Awareness with a book signing and live piano music.
The event takes place from 6-9 p.m. with the Artists’ Reception slated for 6-8 p.m. Veronique Hahn, one of the featured artists, will be there to sign a new book she co-authored and illustrated, titled “Wealth,” which includes an autistic character.
Gav Sears, a local artist with autism, who will be one of the featured visual artists in May, will be there as well, with some samples of his artwork and demonstrating his musical arts abilities by playing the piano throughout the reception. The event is free, open to the public, and light refreshments will be served.
“Found,” Clay DeStefano’s solo show, is hanging in the Main Parlor, and features several of his popular subjects including Mermaids, Mermen, and the Venus of Willendorf. His love of all things ancient shines in his work via a unique use of iconic imagery and heavily modeled and distressed finished.
Bee Friends, San Marcos quilting, also has a new spring display. The group participated in a “Fabric Challenge” where every quilt they made started from the same two pieces of fabric. Their newest nine quilts covered in bluebirds and flowers can be found hanging in the Center’s Stairway Gallery.
Guests to the Center can also see the macro photography works of Margaret Adie in her show titled “Everyday Treasures” in the Tea Room and the works of the River Valley Porcelain Arts Club in the Center’s main and upstairs halls. Local artist Christine Terrell also has a small display of her distinctive upcycled tin jewelry in the Parlor.
Many of the works on display are available for purchase. A portion of proceeds the benefit the Price Center, a non-profit community center, operated by the Greater San Marcos Area Seniors Association.
Several other downtown San Marcos businesses are slated to participate in this month’s 3rdThursday Downtown Walkabout, including the new 218 Co-Op Gallery, located at 218 N.
