Will Johnson And David Mayo Play In All-Star Game

Texas State football players Will Johnson and David Mayo have been selected to play in the College Gridiron Showcase All-Star Game that kicks off at 11 a.m. on January 31 at UT Arlington’s Maverick Stadium.
Mayo was selected a Fourth-Team All-American linebacker by Phil Steele and a unanimous choice for Sun Belt Conference Defensive Player of the Year. He also was named an All-SBC First Team after ranking second nationally and leading the Sun Belt Conference with an average of 12.8 tackles per game. His 154 total tackles tied a Sun Belt single-season record and ranks third in school history for the most tackles in a single season.
He is the only FBS player this season and the first Sun Belt Conference player in league history to record 20 or more tackles in two games during the same season. His 22 tackles at UL Monroe are the highest single-game total in the nation this season. In addition, he ranks 17th nationally and third in the league with 6.0 solo tackles per game, and second among Sun Belt leaders with three forced fumbles.
Johnson was named All-Sun Belt Conference Second Team punter by both College Sports Madness and Phil Steele. He ranked second among league leaders and ranks 21st nationally with a punting average of 43.8 yards on 65 punts. He placed 21 of his punts inside the 20, had 16 punts over 50 yards with four resulting in a touchback. Johnson had a season-best 70-yard punt at Illinois, a 66-yard kick versus Arkansas State and a 64-yard punt at UL Monroe. He was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of Week on Dec. 1 after placing his only punt in the game inside the 20-yard line at the 13-yard line in the fourth quarter, tying a school-record with four field goals and kicking of his 11 kickoffs result in a touchback at Georgia State. Overall, he averaged 63.4 yards on 71 kickoffs with 46 resulting in touchbacks throughout the season.
The College Gridiron Showcase is an All Star football game for all College Football Divisions to take place on January 10, 2015 at 11 AM CST at the University of Texas-Arlington’s Maverick Stadium in Arlington, Texas.
Professional football league scouts evaluate players for six days. The players will receive professional coaching, mentoring, life coaching and seminars that will benefit them as they move forward in their professional lives in or out of football.
The game and practices leading up to the game will highlight the players to scouts and executives from top professional leagues such as the NFL, CFL and AFL.
The players will attend meetings, have practice, perform individual drills, team drills and have personal interviews with the scouts and executives from the professional teams.
