UPDATED 11:00 AM: Uptown Square Shooter Surrenders Himself To Local Law Enforcement

UPDATE: At 4:00 a.m. on Tuesday, April 9, An-drew Stephen Jones surrendered himself at the Hays County Law Enforcement Center. He is being held at the Hays County Jail with a suggested bond of $250,000. At the time of this update, Jones has not been before a judge to set bond.

San Marcos Police Department have obtained an arrest warrant for murder for An-drew Stephen Jones (03/27/1996) of San Marcos for a shooting that occurred Friday, Apr. 5 at Uptown Square Apartments, 1354 Thorpe Ln.

On Friday evening at approximately 6:37 p.m., officers responded to the apartment complex in reference to a report of a shooting.  Multiple callers advised that a victim had been shot in the complex parking lot.  

Witnesses also reported that the shooter was a black male, 6’0”- 6’2” wearing a yellow shirt and light-colored shorts.  He reportedly had a sleeve tattoo on one arm, unknown which arm and was driving a silver SUV.  The vehicle left in an unknown direction on Thorpe Ln.

Officers arriving on scene were able to administer first aid and apply several tourniquets to the victim.  EMS arrived a short time later and the victim was transported to Seton Hays Medical Center where he died from his injuries.

The victim is identified as Nicholas Devone White (01/30/1998) of Manvel, TX. He was pronounced dead by Justice of the Peace Maggie H. Moreno and his body was transported to the Travis County Medical Examiner for autopsy.

Detectives and Crime Scene Investigators began processing the large scene and located numerous witnesses. One witness stated that he was meeting the shooting victim at the apartment complex to buy drugs. While at the complex, the victim and witness were confronted by the above described subject who produced a handgun and shot the victim. He then fled to the silver SUV and left the scene.

Leads were developed from witness descriptions of the shooter and from surveillance video at the entrance and exits of the apartment complex. From the vehicle description, detectives were able to obtain a license plate that eventually led to the development of a suspect, An-drew Stephen Jones.

Jones’ residence was located at the Pointe San Marcos Apartments, 417 N Comanche St and surveillance was conducted. Several roommates were located away from the apartment and interviewed.  

The vehicle Jones used to flee the shooting was also located at the apartment complex parking garage and was impounded to be processed for physical evidence.

On Saturday, Apr. 6 at approximately 5:36 a.m. the San Marcos Hays County SWAT team utilized explosive breaches to serve a search and arrest warrant at the suspect’s residence. Nearby residents in the complex were notified via phone prior to the breaches and were all evacuated safely.

After a thorough search, the suspect was not located in the apartment.  There is an active warrant for Jones for murder.

This is the third homicide of 2019 in San Marcos.  On February 13, Aaron Peterman was found shot and killed at his apartment in the 1600 block of Aquarena Springs Dr.  On February 17, Brihana Landrum was shot and killed by Adrian Diaz in the 1200 block of Hilltop Dr. Diaz then killed himself.
