Dangerously hot conditions with temperatures near 105 for the Interstate 35 corridor and across the Hill Country and near 110 along the Rio Grande.
Extreme heat will significantly increase the potential for heat-related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities.
Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air-conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Keep an eye on your senior neighbors.
Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Know the signs and symptoms of heat exhaustion and heatstroke. Wear lightweight and loose-fitting clothing when possible.
To reduce risk during outdoor work, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration recommends scheduling frequent rest breaks in shaded or air-conditioned environments. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heatstroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.
Heat Advisories and Excessive Heat Warnings are in effect for this afternoon and early evening. Dangerous heat is expected.
Heat Advisories are likely for portions of South-Central Texas through at least Tuesday, and elevated heat index values over 100 degrees are expected to continue each afternoon over much of South-Central Texas through Friday.
Proper heat safety is urged. Stay hydrated and take frequent breaks in the shade or air conditioning. Limit strenuous outdoor activities and check up on the elderly, sick, and those without air conditioning. NEVER leave kids, pets, or disabled adults in unattended vehicles.
The combination of hot conditions and dry fuels will lead to localized areas of elevated fire weather conditions each afternoon through Friday.
