Film Industry Vets Jeanne, Bob Berney To Hold Discussion, Screening

SAN MARCOS – The Department of Theatre and Dance and the College of Fine Arts and Communication at Texas State University will host a discussion with Jeanne R. Berney, film marketing and PR strategist, and Bob Berney, head of marketing and distribution for Amazon Studios, from 1-5 p.m. April 21 in the Alkek Library Teaching Theater.

An advanced screening of the film, Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot, will immediately follow the discussion.

The event is free and open to the public, although tickets are required for admission. Tickets can be obtained online at txstatepresents.com.

Jeanne R. Berney is experienced with all aspects of the film industry, ranging from companies such as Miramax Films, Savoy Pictures, Rysher Entertainment, FilmDistrict and Picturehouse.

She also spent seven years as director of public relations and marketing at the Film Society of Lincoln Center (New York Film Festival) and as the head of motion picture and digital entertainment at Rogers & Cowan.

She and her team have won numerous awards, including two prestigious “Key Art” awards for the films Drive and The Rum Diary in 2012.

Bob Berney, a graduate of the radio, television and film program at the University of Texas, gained notice first with IFC Films on My Big Fat Greek Wedding and then with Newmarket Films, handling Mel Gibson’s hit The Passion of the Christ, as well as Christopher Nolan’s Memento and Alfonso Cuaron’s Y tu Mama Tambien.

He launched Picturehouse in 2005 as a joint venture with HBO Films and New Line and released Guillermo del Toro’s Pan’s Labyrinth, Olivier Dahan’s La Vie en Rose and Robert Altman’s A Prairie Home Companion.

At Amazon Studios, he oversaw the release of dozens of films, including Manchester by the Sea and The Big Sick.

His upcoming summer release, Don’t Worry, He Won’t Get Far on Foot, starring Oscar nominees Joaquin Phoenix and Jonah Hill, was written and directed by Gus Van Sant.
