Final Numbers Tallied For 2019 Bobcats Give Back Program

Over the course of the summer collection effort, the 2019 City of San Marcos Bobcats Give Back program successfully diverted 6,006 pounds of material from the landfill by donating it to local non-profits.

Materials were collected from 13 apartment complexes, a residential drop-off site on Craddock St. and a drop-off site at the Texas State University campus. 

“We are thrilled with the response from Texas State students who donated useful items they typically would have thrown out at the end of the school year,” said Community Enhancement Initiatives Manager Amy Kirwin. “Bobcats Give Back is a great example of how fostering connections between the student populations and local organizations encourage positive outcomes.”

The breakdown of the material collected is as follows:

• Clothes – 55%
• Miscellaneous – 14%
• Food – 13%
• Furniture – 9%
• Small appliances – 6%
• Personal hygiene – 2%
• Pet supplies – 1%

Donations benefited local organizations including Goodwill, Greater San Marcos Youth Council, Habitat ReStore, Hays-Caldwell Women’s Center, Hays County Food Bank, JOSCO Products, Redwood Community Center, and the San Marcos Animal Shelter.

Participating apartment complexes include Cabana Beach, Copper Beech, Elevation on Post, Grove San Marcos, Hillside Ranch, Iconic Village, River Oaks Villas, Savannah Club, Treehouse, University Club, Uptown Square, Vie Lofts, and Westfield.
