The Bobcats conclude the weekend on Sunday against Stephen F. Austin at 1 p.m. at Nacogdoches High School.
SAN MARCOS, Texas – The Texas State soccer team hits the road for the first time this season with two road matches. First up is Northwestern State at 7 p.m. on Friday with the contest taking place at Boyd High School in Shreveport, Louisiana.
The Bobcats conclude the weekend on Sunday against Stephen F. Austin at 1 p.m. at Nacogdoches High School. Both matches were moved to high schools that had turf fields because of the rain received in the areas from the remnants of Hurricane Harvey.
TXST enters the weekend with a 0-2-1 record after falling to Texas A&M-Corpus Christi last Thursday. The Bobcats have gone winless in their last eight matches dating back to last season, tying the program record. The Lady Demons are 2-1 this year while the Lady Jacks sport a 1-2 record.
Brooke Ramsey and Genesis Turman lead TXST in goal scoring with one apiece. Both came off set pieces with assists going to Rachel Grout and Jessica Pikoff.
In net, Kathryn Budde paces the team with a 0.58 GAA, eight saves and 88.9 save percentage in 155 minutes of action. Heather Martin has posted a 2.67 GAA and a 63.6 save percentage with seven stops while playing 135 minutes.
Scouting Northwestern State
Northwestern State is coming off a 1-0 win last Friday on the road against fellow Sun Belt Conference member ULM. The Lady Demon’s other victory this year was a 12-0 smashing of LSU-Shreveport in the season opener. Ole Miss gave NSU their lone loss of the year on Aug. 20 by the score of 8-0.
Pacing the team in scoring is Brittany Caserma and Gabriella Gamboa with three goals apiece, all of which came in the season opener. The duo also leads the Lady Demons with 12 and 10 shot attempts, respectively.
Netting two goals has been Jasmine Juarez. Entering the weekend with a team-high three assists is Esdeina Gonzalez.
Alex Latham has started all three matches in goal. She sports a 2.50 GAA and 66.7 save percentage with 10 saves Appearing in two contests off the bench has been Kayla Bomben. She heads into Friday with a 3.00 GAA, three stops and a 50.0 save percentage.
Series vs. Lady Demons
The all-time series is led by the Bobcats 15-8-3. They have won seven straight and are undefeated in their last 10 meetings with nine victories. The last time the teams met, the Bobcats won 1-0 at home on a goal from Jordan Kondikoff. NSU’s last victory in the series was on Nov. 4, 2005 in Natchitoches, Louisiana by a score of 3-1 in the Southland Conference Tournament.
Scouting Stephen F. Austin
Stephen F. Austin picked up its first win of the season on Sunday over UTSA by the score of 2-1. The Lady Jacks dropped their first two matches of the year to Mississippi State (1-0) and Southern Miss (3-2). Sunday’s contest will be the home opener for SFA after Friday’s scheduled match against Texas Southern was canceled.
Netting a team-high two goals this year has been Katelyn Temini. Both Hanna Barker and Madison Hall have both scored once as well. Barker and Hall also have been credited with an assist this season along with Michaela Mencacci and Sabrina Segovia.
Allyson Smith started against the Bulldogs and Roadrunners to enter the weekend with a 1.33 GAA, 11 saves and 84.6 save percentage. Madelin Talbot has a 2.00 GAA and 76.9 save percentage with 10 stops. The freshmen is 1-1 this season and has been in net for 135 of the team’s last 180 minutes on the pitch.
Series vs. Lady Jacks
The all-time series is led by the Bobcats 12-10-2. Over the last seven meetings, TXST is 2-5 with both wins coming on the road. The last was a 4-0 contest on Sept. 13, 2015. Last season saw SFA win 3-2 in double overtime at the Bobcat Soccer Complex. In the match, Grout scored the first goal of the contest and assisted on the Bobcat’s second goal. TXST is 3-6-2 when playing the Lady Jacks on the road.
