Fisherman Meets San Marcos River Local

The San Marcos River is the epicenter of a variety of recreational activities for all generations.

There is fishing, kayaking, canoeing, swimming, tubing, paddle boarding, etc. The river is home to a variety of different species such as the Texas Wild Rice, turtles, fish…oh, and snakes.

Bubba Ward, an angler and owner of Bubba’s Family Tattoo, was fishing for Bass on a San Marcos River bank when his kayak was swept away by the current. The kayak got caught underneath a low-hanging branch.

It was as Ward was retrieving his vessel that he had an unexpected encounter with a river local. Lying lazily on the low-hanging branch was a huge water snake.

Ward shared a photo of the reptile with his Instagram followers and the San Antonio Express-News.

In the caption below, he told his followers he’d nearly leaned on the snake before he realized there was more to this tree branch.

A Texas Parks and Wildlife Department spokesperson told Express News the reptilian local looked to be a nonvenomous water snake native to the San Marcos River area.

But it’s unlikely anyone is going to volunteer to test the department’s theory any time soon.

The local human residents don’t appear to be the only ones enjoying the river’s recreational services.
