Yesterday, Feb. 15, the names of the 17 deceased victims of a mass shooting at a Florida High School were released to the public.
On Wednesday, Feb. 14, around 2:20 p.m., 19-year-old Nikolas Cruz is reported to have been picked up by an Uber driver and dropped off at the high school; he entered the building with an AR-15, which he had purchased legally in February 2017, and several concealed magazines.
According to court documents, Cruz confessed to investigators.
Broward Sheriff’s Office reported 17 individuals had been taken to nearby hospitals for treatment and 15 had been killed at the school. Two victims succumbed to their wounds at the hospital. The FBI is working with the sheriff’s office to investigate the case.
Witnesses reported hearing the fire alarm go off before hearing the sound of gunshots.
In a press conference Wednesday, Broward County Sheriff Scott Israel said Cruz had been expelled from the Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School for “Disciplinary reasons.”
According to BBC News, three of the victims were teachers; assistant football coach, Aaron Feis, was killed shielding students from bullets with his own body. Teacher Scott Beigel was shot while attempting to lock a classroom door behind a group of students. Chris Hixon, the school’s athletic director, was also killed.

Cruz has been charged with 17 counts of murder premeditated and is being held in Broward County Jail without bond.

Of the 18 shootings, only three have resulted in fatalities in which a gunman came onto a school campus and open fired on students and/or faculties.
According to Fox News, FBI announced they’d received a tip regarding disturbing posts and comments made by Cruz on social media; however, it was never looked into.
