Former County Commissioner Receives Leadership Award

San Marcos, TX—Former Hays County Commissioner Will Conley was awarded the prestigious 2017 Jack Griesenbeck Leadership in Regionalism Award by the Capital Area Council of Government (CAPCOG) for his efforts to bring public mobility to CAPCOG’s 10 county area.

“For 13 years, I have worked for transportation and infrastructure improvements, economic development, and emergency services for our region. I am humbled that my colleagues chose to honor me with this award.” said Conley.

Bastrop County Judge Paul Pape commended Conley for his efforts: “For all the good that Will has done for Bastrop and the rest of the region, this award should be gold-plated. He has been a tremendous asset, especially during the recovery from massive fires our region endured.”

“Mr. Conley is a statewide transportation leader.  His work in the region is unmatched and he continues to be a great asset,” said Cynthia Long, Williamson County Commissioner and Past Chairman of CAPCOG.

Hays County Commissioner Debbie Ingalsbe said of Conley: “I’ve worked with Will on the Commissioners’ Court for over 10 years.  His hard work, determination, and vision have made this county safer and stronger, and I can’t think of a more worthy recipient for this award.”

Conley has served as Hays County Commissioner for precinct three since 2004. Earlier this year, Conley resigned his position to seek the office of Hays County Judge in the 2018 election.

As County Commissioner, Conley was the architect of Hays County’s partnership with the Texas Department of Transportation, which resulted in more than $500 million in upgrades to state highways within the county.

Conley also spearheaded historic public safety initiatives to improve emergency communications, upgrade officer training and safety, and prepare standard response protocols (SRPs) for every school in Hays County to keep students and employees safe in the event of an emergency.

Conley is serving his sixth consecutive year as Chairman of the Capital Area Metropolitan Planning Organization (CAMPO), and is the first person outside of Travis County to be elected to lead the regional transportation board in its 43-year history.

Conley resides in Wimberley with his wife, Erin, and three children. He owns and operates an auto services business with locations in Wimberley and Kyle.
