Job Corps is a no-cost education and career technical training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps young people ages 16 to 24 improve the quality of their lives through career technical and academic training. The Job Corps program is authorized by Title I-C of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014 (supersedes WIA 1998). Gary Job Corps Donates To “Make A Wish”

Gary Job Corps Representatives Patty Lankford, Center Director, and Randolph Goodman, Business Community Liaison, present donation for $1,000 to the City of Kyle for “Make a Wish” recipient Ash Crain, “Ash Pavilion”, construction of roller hockey rink.

“Make-A-Wish”, tens of thousands of volunteers, donors and supporters advance the Make-a-Wish vision to grant the wish of every child diagnosed with a critical illness.  In the United States and its territories, on  average, a wish is granted every 34 minutes. 

“We believe a wish experience can be a game-changer.” 

This one belief guides us and inspires us to grant wishes that change the lives of the kids we serve.

Gary Job Corps November Employee Of The Month

Felicia Armstead, Cook Helper, was selected as the Gary Job Corps Employee of the Month of November. Prior to working at the Gary Center she served as a Chef for a sorority at Texas State University. 

She is currently a Pastor and has established a following called Inspiration Outlet Church on the Gary Center. Felicia is married with three children and stated that she has a passion to work with young people and be the mentor to all and be the “You are Wonderful” person. 

Nathalene Matthews, Finance and Administration Director, stated about Felicia, “Each day after the last trainee is served, you go around the cafeteria talking to trainees and staff telling them how wonderful they are. You also spoke at one of the weekly business meetings and was greeted by thunderous applause from trainees and staff. You started the ‘You are wonderful’ campaign that is embraced by trainees and staff alike. You distribute ‘You are wonderful’ fans and card and banners which are prominently displayed all over the center to remind everyone that ‘You are Wonderful!’ Thank you Felicia Armstead for leaving Gary Job Corps in a better place than you found it!!!”

“Red, White, and You” Veterans Job Fair

The Gary Job Corps Color Guard opened the Veterans Job Fair with a flag presentation at the San Marcos Embassy Suites.

The Workforce Solutions Rural Capital Area sponsored the Job Fair and Embassy Suites hosted the event. Over 50 employers were visited by hundreds of job seekers.
