Gary Hero
Gary Job Corps Center has a hero learning to drive. Driver’s Education Instructor Octavio Reyna said he had been eating trail mix and at one point he started to cough. He pulled over the Driver’s Education car when he realized something was seriously wrong. Mr. Reyna started to choke and couldn’t breathe.
Security cadet Emanuel Jaramillo, who is learning to drive, moved into action following his training and administered the Heimlich maneuver. Mr. Reyna said Emanuel was able to help dislodge the obstacle and save his life!
Mr. Reyna said he is thankful to be alive and it is all due to his student Emanuel’s quick actions. Emanuel said, “he just did what he had to do and followed his training.” Emanuel is training to become a security officer. The Gary Job Corps Center is really proud to have a hero that will be able to share and utilize his training to help others out in the workforce.
