Gary Job Corps Holds Public Works Appreciation Luncheon

Job Corps is a no-cost education and career technical training program administered by the U.S. Department of Labor that helps young people ages 16 to 24 improve the quality of their lives through career technical and academic training.

The Job Corps program is authorized by Title I-C of the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014 (supersedes WIA 1998). For more information about the Job Corps program at a national level, please visit their Official Public Web Site.


Public Works Appreciation Luncheon

The Gary Job Corps Community Relations Council and Green Group Holdings sponsored the Public Works Departments Appreciations Luncheon held at Kent Black’s BBQ  for the cities of Kyle, Luling, Lockhart, and San Marcos. 

Representatives of the Water, Electric, and Road Department were recognized for their service to community, sometimes in the most adverse of conditions. 

San Marcos Mayor Jane Hughson and Lockhart City Councilman Juan Mendoza also shared their thanks for their service. 

Elva Zdeb, Gary Community Relations Council President, addressed the audience with the thanks from the community and the Gary Job Corps Center for their services, further she added “you are called to service sometimes in the most adverse of conditions and you always show up to restore power, fix water issues, or repair roads that were taken out during our flooding situations, by this Appreciation Luncheon we would like show you our thanks for a “Job Well Done.”
