Gary Job Corps Law Enforcement Alumni Speak To Corrections, Security Cadets

Retired Texas lawman Frank Alvarez, Kyle Policeman Dago Pates, US Border Agent Steve Veloz, Texas Highway Patrolman Diego Cardozo and Hays County Constable David Peterson were the Gary Job Corps Alumni that shared with the corrections and security cadets the roles of law enforcement present day.

Frank Alvarez, 1967 graduate, has over 50 years in law enforcement serving with: the Hays and Caldwell County Sheriff’s Department (detective, deputy, and SWAT), Hays County Constable’s office, FBI, and Homeland Security. 

Dago Pates, 2005 graduate, currently works with the Kyle Police Department having worked Travis County Jail, Hays County Corrections, and Deputy with Hays County. 

Steve Veloz, 1997 graduate, currently works with the US Border Patrol (15 years) coming from the US Army. Diego Cardoso, a 2001 graduate and currently works as a Texas Highway Patrolman for the past 10 years, and has a BA in criminal justice from Texas State University and David Peterson, a 1983 graduate and currently Peterson is a  Hays County Constable for 12 yrs and spent 19 years as a Hays County Deputy Sheriff (retired), SW Texas State Police Academy, and a Travis County Police Academy graduate . 

Lonnie Hall, Gary Job Corps’ Center Director, stated that “Gary Job Corps is very proud of its graduates that serve the community and understand the sacrifices that they make every day. We are very proud of all our graduates that go out in the work world and the military that are continuing to make a difference “.
