Commissioners Court Invites Community To Martin Luther King Jr. Day Events

 MLK Day volunteer Mittie Miller told the Court that everyone is invited to gather at the Hays County Courthouse grounds at 9:45 a.m. January 16 for a 10 a.m. group march to the Dunbar Center at 801 MLK Drive.

Hays County Courthouse, San Marcos, TX – The Hays County Commissioners Court has proclaimed January 16, 2017, as Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Day in Hays County and called upon citizens to honor his memory by participating in observances that commemorate his important contributions to our nation.

The theme of the 2017 observance is “Committed to the Legacy of Dr. King.” Dr. King’s birthday (he was born January 15, 1929) is a federal holiday that encourages all Americans to fulfill Dr. King’s vision of freedom, equality and opportunity for all people.

MLK Day volunteer Mittie Miller told the Court that everyone is invited to gather at the Hays County Courthouse grounds at 9:45 a.m. January 16 for a 10 a.m. group march to the Dunbar Center at 801 MLK Drive. At the Center there will be a short program at 11 a.m., followed by food and entertainment.

Movies, music, vendors and a Peace Pie social will be among the fun.

On behalf of the Court, Precinct 1 Commissioner Debbie Gonzales Ingalsbe thanked the MLK Day organizers “for all they do for our community.”
